Engineering Manager: Chiller Product Development, Pune

Johnson Controls delivers solutions that support smart, healthy, and sustainable buildings. In this role, you will help shape chiller product development with a focus on performance, reliability, manufacturability, and customer value.

You will lead a team working at the intersection of mechanical design, validation, and production readiness, contributing to product improvements and new product introduction in a fast-moving engineering environment.

Role Overview

As Engineering Manager: Chiller Product Development, you will lead mechanical and design engineering activities for industrial refrigeration and chiller products. You will own key parts of the product development lifecycle, guide technical decisions, and partner closely with cross-functional teams to bring robust, cost-effective, and compliant solutions to market.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop a team of mechanical and design engineers supporting chiller product development.
  • Own the end-to-end development process from concept, design, prototyping, and testing through production release.
  • Prepare and review 3D models, engineering drawings, fabrication drawings, BOMs, and supporting technical documentation.
  • Generate and review pressure vessel and heat exchanger drawings and specifications to meet order and product requirements.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing, quality, supply chain, procurement, marketing, and customer-facing teams to align engineering output with business needs.
  • Drive product improvements that enhance performance, cost-effectiveness, reliability, and manufacturability.
  • Support validation activities, design reviews, and engineering changes for new and existing products.
  • Evaluate technologies, materials, and design approaches that strengthen product competitiveness.
  • Support field and service teams with technical expertise and issue resolution when needed.
  • Mentor team members and build engineering capability through coaching, review, and feedback.

How You Will Do It

  • You will take ownership of outcomes with accountability, safety, and integrity, ensuring engineering decisions are practical, traceable, and aligned to quality expectations.
  • You will stay close to the work by engaging with design, manufacturing, and service teams early, so issues are identified and removed before they affect customers.
  • You will use structured product development methods such as stage-gate thinking, DFMEA, and DVP&R to keep programs disciplined and well controlled.
  • You will encourage clear feedback, root-cause problem solving, and continuous improvement across product design, testing, and release activities.
  • You will win as one team by collaborating across functions, building trust with stakeholders, and valuing diverse technical perspectives.
  • You will keep documentation current and precise, including drawings, specifications, change records, and engineering deliverables.
  • You will balance technical depth with practical execution, ensuring designs are ready for production and supportable in the field.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • 10+ years of experience in industrial refrigeration or chiller product design and development.
  • At least 3 years of experience in a leadership or managerial role.
  • Strong knowledge of thermodynamics, heat transfer, and refrigeration cycles.
  • Proficiency in CAD tools such as AutoCAD and Creo.
  • Experience with product development processes including DFMEA, DVP&R, and stage-gate methodologies.
  • Experience creating and reviewing engineering drawings, BOMs, and technical documentation.
  • Excellent communication, project management, and team leadership skills.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with ASHRAE, ISO, PED, ASME, or API requirements in product development or compliance work.
  • Exposure to pressure vessel and heat exchanger design for industrial refrigeration applications.
  • Experience supporting manufacturing, procurement, or field issue resolution in a product development environment.
  • Familiarity with continuous improvement practices in an engineering or manufacturing setting.

Why Join Us

Join a collaborative team where your engineering leadership can directly influence product performance, reliability, and customer outcomes. You will have the opportunity to work across disciplines, support meaningful product improvements, and contribute to a culture that values safety, development, and practical innovation.

If you are ready to lead chiller product development and make an impact, we invite you to apply.
