About the Role
We're looking for an experienced Software Engineer to help build OpenBlue, Johnson Controls' smart-building platform. You'll work as part of a cross-functional team, build features end to end with a good degree of independence, and share your knowledge with less experienced engineers.

Responsibilities

  • Develop features end to end, from design through to production, with minimal supervision.
  • Contribute to technical design and design discussions for microservices, APIs and web applications.
  • Build and maintain microservices, APIs and web applications.
  • Write clean, well-tested, maintainable code that follows team standards.
  • Take part in code reviews, giving and receiving constructive feedback, and help mentor junior engineers.
  • Run or support proofs of concept (PoCs) to evaluate new technologies and approaches.
  • Troubleshoot and fix issues in development, test and production environments.
  • Follow secure coding practices and help keep solutions scalable and performant.
  • Use AI-assisted development tools to speed up delivery.
  • Work with product, UX, QA and DevOps teams across locations to plan and deliver work.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of software development experience, including significant hands-on full stack work.
  • Strong working knowledge of TypeScript, React and Node.js (NestJS preferred).
  • Experience building REST APIs and designing PostgreSQL or other relational data models.
  • Good understanding of microservices concepts; exposure to gRPC is a plus.
  • Good understanding of web security, automated testing and CI/CD.
  • Working knowledge of Docker; experience with Kubernetes, preferably on Azure, is a plus.
  • Good communication and problem-solving skills.

Nice to Have

  • Exposure to Kafka, Redis or real-time data streaming.
  • Experience working on multi-tenant SaaS platforms.
  • Interest in or experience with IoT or building systems.
