Job Description

What you will do:

As a Project Manager, you will support new product development activities through Johnson Controls’ stage-gate development process for the Chiller Product Business Unit. This role is well suited for someone who is new to project management or transitioning into project management from another function or career path. You will support and coordinate assigned project activities, sub-projects, and workstreams that help deliver products meeting cost, quality, performance, and time-to-market objectives. Working under moderate supervision, you will frequently collaborate with and assist more senior project and program team members while building capability in structured product development, cross-functional coordination, and disciplined execution. Depending on the assignment, this role may at times operate similarly to a project coordinator or a supervised project manager. This role will be based in the Johnson Controls Asia Engineering Center (AEC) in Wuxi.

How you will do it:

Program Execution & Delivery

  • Support assigned new product development activities, sub-projects, and smaller workstreams through Johnson Controls’ stage-gate development process and help maintain progress through phase milestones.
  • Support coordination of assigned project activities to help deliver approved scope within established quality, performance, and schedule targets, with guidance as needed.
  • Assist senior project or program team members with development of execution plans, schedules, resource needs, and follow-up actions for assigned work.
  • Track dependencies, action items, and key dates for assigned activities and escalate concerns when appropriate.

Cross-Functional Coordination

  • Coordinate with cross-functional team members across core and support functions to maintain alignment on assigned deliverables, timelines, and follow-up actions.
  • Facilitate communication, meeting follow-up, and coordination across team members to support senior project or program team members in execution of project plans and completion of assigned work.
  • Build effective working relationships with team members and stakeholders to support collaboration, communication, and execution of project objectives.

Risk, Issue, and Stakeholder Management

  • Identify risks and issues within assigned scope, support mitigation planning, and escalate concerns when appropriate.
  • Collaborate with functional managers, project or program managers, and leadership to support issue resolution and alignment on priorities.
  • Assist with communication of project status, risks, action items, and decisions through regular updates, dashboards, and review meetings.

What we look for:

Required

  • Bachelor of Science (BS) in Engineering or related field
  • 1–2 years of experience in project coordination, project support, or related work within a functional or matrixed environment, or equivalent experience in roles involving planning, scheduling, cross-functional coordination, tracking deliverables, or supporting team execution
  • Experience supporting schedules, tracking action items, facilitating project meetings, and maintaining project plans or related documentation
  • Experience coordinating with cross-functional team members to support execution of project activities
  • Familiarity with Microsoft O365 tools and the ability to learn project planning and work management tools such as Microsoft Project
  • Ability to travel domestically and/or internationally as needed to support program execution and stakeholder engagement

Ideal or Preferred

  • Hands-on experience using project planning software like Microsoft Project
  • Exposure to stage-gate or phase-gate product development processes
  • Basic knowledge of the HVAC industry or a related product development environment
  • Experience using collaboration platforms (e.g. Microsoft Teams) and work management tools (e.g. Daptiv, Planview, Smartsheet, Wrike)
