Job Description

We are seeking a Shipping Manger, Navy Systems, to join our federal team at our York, PA location. Our team at the Grantley Plant custom design, develops, manufactures, ships, installs, and maintains industrial HVAC equipment for Navy vessels of all sizes.  The Shipping Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the shipping process to ensure timely, accurate, and cost-effective delivery of goods. This role includes managing shipping staff, coordinating with carriers and vendors, monitoring inventory movements, and ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards.

As a Shipping Manager, you will:

  • Supervise daily shipping operations, including scheduling, packaging, labeling, and dispatching of goods.
  • Coordinate with carriers, freight forwarders, and couriers to ensure timely pickups and deliveries.
  • Maintain shipping documentation, including bills of lading, shipping labels, and customs paperwork.
  • Monitor and manage shipping costs, seeking opportunities for efficiency and cost reduction.
  • Ensure all shipments comply with company policies, customer requirements, and legal regulations.
  • Manage shipping staff, including hiring, training, and performance evaluation.
  • Track shipments and resolve issues such as delays, damages, or lost packages.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe shipping area.
  • Collaborate with other departments to meet delivery deadlines.
  • Manages transportation contracts, both in-bound and out-bound, to assure customer needs are satisfied.
  • Develops, implements and maintains strategies to achieve a quality and cost-effective packaging, shipping and stockroom operation.
  • Complies with Federal, Department of Defense, state and local warehousing, material handling and shipping requirements by studying existing and new legislation, enforcing adherence to requirements and advising management on needed actions

Required Qualifications:

  • This position requires the successful candidate to be a U.S. Citizen due to contractual obligations with the Department of Defense. Non-citizens are not eligible due to security and export control requirements.
  • BA or BS degree in the field of Business, Supply Chain Management, or related fields is required.
  • 7-10 years of progressive experience in the field of warehouse management and or logistics management required, including 2-4 years supervisory experience.
  • In depth knowledge of Department of Defense packaging requirements, Department of Transportation hazardous material regulations, and defense industry export requirements and other applicable state and federal laws and regulations
  • Must be a data-driven decision maker with outstanding analytical skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to interact and influence individuals, internally and externally, across all levels, functions and geographies.
  • Strong organizational planning skills.

Johnson Controls Navy Systems is a part of the Johnson Controls Federal Systems business.
