ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING.  OTHER DUTIES MAY BE ASSIGNED

  • Obtains appropriate paperwork or drawings for each coil/header.
  • Positions header parts in jigs or fixtures on table & clamps parts together.
  • Selects torch, torch tip, filler rod and flux, according to material being brazed.
  • Connects regulator valves and hoses to oxygen and fuel gas cylinders, and brazing torch.
  • Turns regulator valves to activate flow of gases, lights torch and adjusts gas mixture and pressure, to obtain desired flame.
  • Holds torch at proper angle to metal and guides along braze joint, applying filler rod to molten area to form weld.
  • Examines braze joint for leaks.
  • Locates and repairs leaks in header or coil assembly.
  • Applies, and fills out if necessary, all required coil/header labels.
  • Builds tall coils (i.e. assembles coil halves together).
  • Signs off shop floor paperwork signifying completion of job.
  • Trains new or existing employees if necessary.
  • Wears all required personal protective equipment.
  • Cleans work area at end of shift.
  • Responsible for reporting work related injuries and near misses to supervision.
  • Responsible for wearing all required PPE and following applicable safety/environmental rules.
  • Responsible for correcting or reporting unsafe conditions observed within the plant.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

Less than high school education; or up to one month related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE ABILITY

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos (i.e. safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, shop-floor paperwork, and procedure manuals).

MATH ABILITY

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. 

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

COMPUTER SKILLS

No computer skills required.

CERTIFICATES & LICENSES

Brazing certification required.  Must be able to obtain within one (1) month.

The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear.  The frequency of these requirements may vary depending on the brazing job at the time (i.e header brazers, test tank operators, etc…).  The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include Close vision, Peripheral vision, Depth perception and Ability to adjust focus.
