Job Details

THE ROLE:

You will be responsible for the implementation and ongoing oversight of the ethics and compliance program across Johnson Controls-Hitachi international sites. In this role, you will support the business in promoting a strong ethical culture and embedding effective compliance risk management practices across our international sites. You will report directly to the Global Compliance Director.

The position will require partnering with key leaders, advising them of all relevant key regulatory changes to inform business planning and strategic decision making and aligning the team’s support to appropriately prevent, detect and respond to ethics and compliance risks.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and maintain effective lines of communication with senior management on ethics and compliance matters, and develop and support programs designed to drive compliance to the Code of Conduct and compliance-related policies, enhance “tone at the top” and “speak up” culture.
  • Provide guidance and direction to management and other personnel by advising on ethics and compliance matters, including compliance review and approval on high-risk transactions.
  • Identify opportunities for, and develop and deliver country and/or function focused trainings, communications, and compliance programs to address specific and unique compliance risks.
  • Lead the “Integrity Champions” program by maintaining the network of champions, providing them training, guidance and monitoring on an on-going basis.
  • Identify emerging risk factors within the scope of the ethics and compliance program and recommend appropriate issue-specific and programmatic preventive and corrective actions to mitigate risks and advance the company’s goals in a legal and ethical manner
  • Develop in-depth knowledge and understanding of the business and maintain a solid understanding of new and proposed regulatory developments and assist with analyzing the impact of those developments on the ethics and compliance program.
  • Identify ethics and compliance matters that require follow-up or investigation, and as appropriate, conduct or support investigations, and manage the remediation and disciplinary process.
  • Support corruption-risk assessments and reviews, data privacy, fair competition, trade, and anti-corruption compliance audits, and targeted compliance risk assessments of country business units.
  • Assist with M&A due diligence and post-acquisition integration activities.
  • Execute special projects as needed, including supporting in the development of new compliance tools and programs to address business needs and emerging risks.

REQUIREMENTS:

Educational Background

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Legal or other relevant discipline

Work Experience

  • A minimum of 7+ years of experience in ethics and compliance, legal or internal audit in a multi-national corporation

Knowledge/Skill level

  • Working knowledge of ethics and compliance programs, business processes and internal controls
  • Strong understanding on Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, Fair Competition and Data Privacy as well as local compliance related laws and regulations
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and operate effectively in a fast-paced environment, prioritize and work simultaneously on multiple projects while maintaining strong attention to detail
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent critical thinking and analytical skills
  • Sound business judgement and acumen, with the ability to think strategically and give practical advice and solutions by balancing business needs with risk exposure
  • Proficient in use of word processing and other data processing programs, especially Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.

Language Level

  • Japanese & English – Fluent
