Quality Specialist – Naval Systems (HVAC & Fire Suppression)

About the role

Johnson Controls is seeking a dedicated and experienced Quality Specialist to join our Naval Systems team. This role plays a critical part in ensuring the quality and compliance of HVAC, fire suppression, and fire detection systems across high-profile naval projects.

As a Quality Specialist, you will lead the development and implementation of Quality Assurance Plans and Inspection & Test Plans, conduct supplier inspections across Europe, and ensure alignment with ISO 9001 and AQAP standards. You’ll work closely with engineering, procurement, and project teams to embed quality throughout the project lifecycle, while supporting the Quality Manager in maintaining the Quality Management System and preparing for audits.

This is a remote-based position, but candidates must be located within commuting distance of one of our key offices in Basildon, Manchester, or Sunbury-on-Thames.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Creating and managing QA documentation for naval HVAC and fire systems

  • Conducting supplier inspections across Europe

  • Reviewing and approving supplier certifications and quality records

  • Leading 8D Root Cause Analysis and driving CAPA initiatives

  • Supporting internal and external audits, including MOD and client reviews

  • Maintaining quality metrics and contributing to continuous improvement

What We’re Looking For:

  • Experience in naval, defence, or marine engineering quality assurance

  • Strong knowledge of HVAC and fire safety systems

  • Familiarity with ISO 9001, AQAP 2105, AQAP 2110, and AQAP 2210

  • Proven track record in supplier inspections and audit processes

  • Proficiency in 8D problem-solving methodology

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills

  • Degree or equivalent in Engineering, Quality Management, or related field

  • Ability to travel to multiple site locations to carry out inspections.
