Descripción del empleo
Position Summary
The Sound and Vibration Engineering Manager is responsible for leading the development, application, and continuous improvement of sound and vibration engineering practices across product platforms (AHU’s, water and air-cooled chillers and other data center related cooling equipment.) This role provides technical leadership and people management for a team of sound and vibration engineers and serves as the primary authority for product- and system-level sound and vibration performance.
The position partners closely with product development, modeling and simulation, testing, manufacturing, and product technical support teams to ensure products meet customer expectations, regulatory requirements, and internal performance targets for sound and vibration.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership
Provide subject-matter leadership in sound and vibration engineering, including airborne noise, structure-borne vibration, and system-level sound and vibration performance.
Establish sound and vibration performance targets for products and guide engineering teams in achieving those targets.
Support product decisions related to structural dynamics, isolation, damping, and noise control.
Review and approve sound and vibration analyses, test plans, and final product performance ratings for chiller and AHU products.
Engineering Management
Lead, coach, and develop a team of sound and vibration engineers, including workload planning, technical mentoring, and performance management.
Set technical direction, priorities, and standards for sound and vibration activities across projects.
Ensure consistent application of best practices, tools, and methodologies within the team.
Analysis, Testing & Validation
Oversee the use of analytical and experimental techniques such as modal analysis, operational deflection shape analysis, and vibration analysis in both frequency and time domains.
Guide acoustic measurements, sound power determination, and transfer path analysis activities.
Guide correlation between simulation models and laboratory or field test data.
Support sound and vibration troubleshooting during development, qualification, and investigation of field-reported issues.
Product Development Support
Partner with design, modeling and simulation, and laboratory teams throughout the product development lifecycle.
Provide early concept input to reduce risk and cost associated with late-stage sound and vibration issues.
Support design reviews and design changes related to sound and vibration performance.
Standards, Compliance & Continuous Improvement
Develop and maintain internal sound and vibration standards, test procedures, and design guidelines.
Ensure compliance with applicable industry standards (AHRI, AMCA and others) and customer sound and vibration requirements.
Drive continuous improvement in sound and vibration tools, processes, and engineering efficiency.
Required Qualifications
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering field.
Master’s degree with a focus on acoustics, vibration, or structural dynamics is preferred.
Experience
8+ years of professional experience in sound and vibration engineering.
3+ years of experience leading engineers or technical teams.
Demonstrated experience applying sound and vibration principles to complex mechanical or electro-mechanical products.
Technical Skills
Strong background in structural dynamics, vibration, and acoustics.
Experience with experimental test methods and instrumentation.
Ability to interpret frequency- and time-domain measurement data.
Experience with sound and vibration analysis and test tools (MBBM PAK, wave6, Ansys and MEScope preferred.)
Ability to translate sound and vibration data into clear, actionable design recommendations.
Leadership & Professional Skills
Strong technical judgment and decision-making capability.
Effective communication across multiple engineering disciplines and leadership levels.
Proven ability to balance technical depth with program and business priorities.
Experience working in cross-functional and global engineering environments.
Preferred Experience
Experience with HVAC, refrigeration, rotating machinery, or industrial equipment.
Familiarity with simulation tools supporting structural dynamics and acoustics.
Experience supporting regulatory, certification, or customer-specific sound requirements.
HIRING SALARY RANGE: $130000 - $150,000 (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.
