What you will do
Johnson Controls is searching for an Electrical Engineering Lab Supervisor to be located at the Fire Detection R&D facility in Westford, MA.  You will be responsible for day-to-day management of our laboratory, which may include design testing, design modification, or limited design assignments. Products include embedded system designs, small signal and instrumentation circuitry, switch mode power supplies, front panel user interfaces, audio amplifiers, peer-to-peer networking, linear power supplies, sensors and detectors, and fiber optics.  This position is in Westford, MA, and candidates must be commuting distance to the facility.

How you will do it

  • On site in lab for day-to-day lab management

  • Manage assignments for up to ten technicians from New Product Development, Regulatory initiatives and Sustaining Activities

  • Manage lab equipment and processes (e.g. soldering , calibration, equipment training, Capital equipment purchases)

  • Mentor / Train / acquire / retrain critical skills in the lab

  • Learn UL standards applicable to lab testing

  • Become expert in our application of UL’s Client Test Data Program (similar to ISO 17025 compliance)

  • Lead our UL Client Test Data Program and test our products in accordance with UL requirements

  • Manage, create, and update process documentation for laboratory equipment and tests

What you will need
Required

  • Associate’s degree or higher in an electrical engineering discipline

  • Equivalent of 3-5 years of component level electrical design knowledge

  • Minimum five years in an engineering laboratory setting (as technician or engineer)

  • Understanding of EMC testing for radiated emissions and susceptibility

  • Experience with basic electrical or mechanical CAD tools

  • Ability to work well with others in a team environment that spans multiple countries.

  • Experience in an engineering laboratory setting

Preferred

  • Experience in electrical design

HIRING SALARY RANGE: $82,000 - $103,000 (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, location and alignment with market data.)
