What you will do

Johnson Controls is seeking an experienced and driven Senior Mechanical Engineer. This on-site position in Glendale, WI is responsible for executing projects supporting new product development, and sustaining existing product lines, across a portfolio that includes valves and actuators, refrigeration controls, BAS controllers, sensors, and thermostats. Candidates must be commuting distance to Glendale, WI,, or able and willing to relocate.

As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will lead the design, development, and continuous improvement of innovative electromechanical products. You will lead mechanical design efforts from concept through production, applying advanced engineering principles, simulation tools, and hands-on prototyping to deliver reliable, cost-effective solutions on schedule.

How you will do it

  • Lead mechanical design and development of new electromechanical products, including actuators, valves, motorized assemblies, and gear-driven systems.
  • Proven success in leading new product development design efforts for complex electromechanical products.
  • Manage and track project deliverables, including design updates, timing, and milestone reporting.
  • Design and optimize injection-molded plastic components, ensuring manufacturability, durability, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Perform detailed FEA (Finite Element Analysis) for structural, thermal, and dynamic performance validation.
  • Utilize 3D printing and rapid prototyping techniques to create concept models and functional prototypes for internal evaluation and customer feedback.
  • Collaborate closely with Product Management, Project Management, Test Lab, Supply and Manufacturing.
  • Support sustaining engineering efforts including VAVE projects, product enhancements, and quality issues.
  • Create and maintain detailed 3D CAD models, drawings, and BOMs using tools such as Creo.
  • Conduct design reviews, DFMEA, DVP&R, and tolerance stack-ups to ensure robust product performance.
  • Support prototype builds, testing, and validation in lab and field environments.
  • Drive continuous improvement in design processes, tools, and standards.

What you will need
Required

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • 7+ years of experience in mechanical design, preferably in electromechanical product development.
  • Proven expertise in FEA tools and interpreting simulation results to guide design decisions.
  • Strong knowledge of injection molding, including material selection, DFM, and tooling considerations.
  • Hands-on experience with motors, actuators, and gear train design.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD (Creo preferred) and PLM systems.
  • Experience with 3D printing and prototyping for iterative design and customer validation.
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and project management skills.

Preferred

  • Experience in HVAC, building automation, or related electromechanical industries.
  • Familiarity with sensor integration, embedded control systems, or electromechanical design.
  • Familiarity with regulatory standards (UL, CE, EN, CSA, etc
