Structural Engineering Supervisor

What you will do

For the day-to-day engineering responsibilities, leveraging your thorough knowledge of civil/structural design and engineering techniques, you will be responsible to plan and conduct independent work requiring judgment in the evaluation, selection, application, and adaptation of engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria. In addition, you will devise new approaches to problems, and prepare or modify drawings, specifications, calculations, charts, and graphs, and monitor work for compliance to applicable codes and accepted engineering practices.  Put a strong focus on achieving success for the above using Static, Dynamic, and Vibration FEA methods.  Projects are for both internal (plant devices) and external (product) customers and require multi-discipline coordination.

For the supervisory responsibilities, the role will entail the technical and Human Resource (HR) oversight of the experienced structural engineers assigned to you.  Ensure that sound, thorough, and consistent engineering practices are employed across the structural engineering group.  Work with the Director of Engineering and Engineering Process Manager to formalize the process, procedures, design/calculation tools, and deliverable templates used/required of the structural engineering deliverables.  Provide training, review, mentorship, and guidance to the assigned team members to achieve cost optimized designs while ensuring codes, standards, safety, quality, etc. are met.  Specific focus on training the structural engineers on Static, Dynamic, and Vibrational FEA design.

How you will do it

  • Collaborate with production and safety departments on situational solutions involving structural design including design and structural analysis of manufacturing tools and plant safety systems.

  • Perform design analysis, calculations, models, and validation for manufacturing plant designs and approvals, lifting beams/devices, carts, tables, fixtures, etc.

  • Prepare design analysis, calculations, models, and validation for structurally related components of HVAC equipment, modular type equipment and other manufactured items.

  • Create, supervise, and approve structural drawings for fabrication purposes.

  • Work with third parties including various jurisdictions for approvals of structural design of manufactured equipment as required by specific projects.

  • Provide cost/benefit studies of various designs and associated justification involving structural component sizing and selection for company product platforms.

  • Flexibility in working with engineering and production teams on various other projects as needed/directed.

  • Perform inspections on manufacturing floor (or onsite) to ensure conformance with structural designs.

  • Coordinate with Inventory and Procurement for the cost optimization of material selections.

  • Maintenance of plant CWB certification.

  • Collaborate with other engineering disciplines as part of a design team.

  • Work with varying structural engineering software and provide improvement initiatives and suggestion for technological advancement.

  • Have knowledge and understanding of structural and safety codes imposed by various associations.

  • Provide leadership within a multidisciplinary engineering team and manufacturing facility.

  • Provide HR management for the assigned structural engineers (e.g. goal setting, performance reviews, conflict resolution, etc.).

  • Ensure standardization of process, procedures, and deliverables across the structural engineering group.

What we look for
