Responsibility Level:

The Principal Engineer is responsible to contribute to the product team through product design, testing, data analysis, and project management.  The Principal Engineer will also support the manufacturing and sustaining of the product including initiating and executing design changes.  All these tasks also require strong communication skills and the ability to clearly present information to engineering teammates, engineering managers, and product management.    

Principal Duties (as related to functional responsibilities):

  • Maintains understanding of theories, concepts, technical principles and processes related to fluid, thermal, and other mechanical aspects of electrical panels used on commercial or industrial equipment

  • Contributes to the on-time completion of programs and regularly reports on the status of projects

  • Has proficiency in mechanical design and be able to conceptualize and implement design ideas into CAD models and physical prototypes

  • Application of regulatory codes such as UL and CE as well as ability to learn specific regional requirements needed for global markets

  • Work closely with the design and manufacturing teams in generating layout concepts and system configurations that consider the best balance of cost, performance, and reliability.

  • Coordinate and help execute test programs to validate performance and reliability of mechanical systems and components

  • Analyze, design, modify and/or troubleshoot mechanical sub-components and electrical sub-systems based on test data, simulation, and CFD results

  • Generate and review technical documentation for use within the product team and for distribution to external customers

  • Occasional domestic and international travel (less than 10%)

Requirements:  

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • BS in Engineering or related science

  • Minimum 7 years of experience in a related field

  • Preferred experience with CREO and 3D modeling of sheet metal and cabling

  • Proficient with organizing and processing large amounts of data

  • Experience with product development and sustaining of configurable systems

  • Ability to mentor and train other engineers
