Responsibility Level:
Under general supervision, purchases complex materials and services for a specific commodity following established quality standards, availability requirements, and price constraints.
Principal Duties:
1. Enters all customer orders in a timely fashion and provides feedback to users on status of orders.
2. Purchases complex items at the best price from reliable sources, consistent with established standards for quality, quantity, and other factory requirements of the business.
3. Obtains quotations and negotiates with suppliers on price, quality and service on assigned purchased materials.
4. Collects, analyzes and recommends solutions to quality problems on purchased materials.
5. Plans and prioritizes activities, suggests and implements process improvements aimed at increasing customer service levels.
6. Manages interpersonal relationships with supplier staff and contributes to the measurement and reporting of program performance.
7. Establishes and maintains a harmonious relationship with vendors or prospective vendors in order to enhance the performance and reputation of the company.
8. Follows-up and expedites orders to obtain proper, on-time delivery.
9. Assists with back orders and resolution of match and hold reports to resolve pricing and quantity discrepancies.
10. Advises management of improvements on materials and equipment, price changes, marketing changes and source changes.
11. Interviews suppliers representatives and investigates new sources of supply for assigned purchased materials.
12. Supports Company's initiatives for selecting minority owned and small disadvantaged suppliers.
13. Liase with supplier for special equipment configurations as needed.
14. Performs special projects and other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, a related area, or equivalent. A minimum of two or more years of purchasing or production inventory control experience required. Commodity knowledge in mechanical and/or electrical components desired. Demonstrated analytical and communication skills-both written and verbal. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite programs.
