Under direction from the Plant Superintendent, the Area Manager is responsible for organization and implementation of plans, procedures and policies necessary to maximize utilization of resources in line with area and plant goals. This position incorporates the values of safety, quality and employee relations.
Typical Duties:
1. Supervises manufacturing supervisors with respect to production, volume, cost, quality and achievement of production plans.
2. Assures, through manufacturing supervisors, good employee relations. May conduct employee meetings, approves merit increases, staffing and discipline. Assures proper administration of union agreement, and proper application of employee relations policies.
3. Stimulates maximum efficiency and productivity of all manufacturing supervisors and production employees. Assures efficient utilization of equipment and facilities.
4. In conjunction with manufacturing supervisors, establishes goals and objectives for assigned departments for review by Plant Manager and Superintendent. Administers the goal setting/performance appraisal program for the area.
5. Responsible for selection, hiring and development of supervisors and production associates.
6. Coordinates activities within his area with those of other production areas, plant staff managers and the division. In conjunction with Production Control may develop weekly schedules to meet customer requirements.
7. Assures compliance with Company and Plant policies, health and safety standards, environmental regulations, hazardous waste, and good housekeeping practices.
8. Continuously reviews ongoing performance within area of responsibility and takes action to assure achievement of goals.
9. Recommends improvements in equipment and processes. Coordinates, manages and evaluates the installation of new equipment or processes in area of responsibility.
10. Assures proper maintenance of machines and equipment in area of responsibility. Coordinates longer term planning for major maintenance projects.
11. Assures compliance with quality and process specifications.
12. Maintains the security of products and assets in area of responsibility.
13. Adheres to plant specific environmental management systems.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in business, management or related field
Six or more years manufacturing experience, at least four of which are in a production supervisory capacity
Previous experience in a unionized manufacturing environment preferred
Proficient use of the Microsoft Office suite required
Experienced track record of leadership, proactive communication, effectuating change, and managing to the bottom line
