Warranty Failure Analysis Engineer
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
This hands-on position will support Large Tonnage Chillers, Small Tonnage Air and Water Cooled Chillers and other commercial systems products through testing warranty return components to identify root cause of failure. The main objective of this position is to provide factual information to the Global Supplier Quality group regarding the root cause of failure for the appropriate fault assignment in the Service Defect Warranty system. The engineer will work with suppliers, Global Supplier Quality, engineering, and product technical support to design, document and carry-out analyses of returned components.
* Responsible for creating, documenting and performing various analyses on components to identify root cause. Meet with any/all groups to disseminate and agree upon analysis plans. * Upon analysis completion, create a formal failure analysis report of the data and report findings to Global Supplier Quality and other groups as needed (Product Technical Support, Engineering, Supplier, etc.). * Work with suppliers to schedule analyses and required resources needed. Coordinate third party analysis (e.g. metallurgical, eddy current, water quality, etc.) as required. * Generate and communicate warranty component return metrics. * Maintain calibration of analysis equipment. * Individual must be proficient in Technical Writing and in using Microsoft Office tools (Access, Excel, Word, etc.) to create Failure Analysis Reports and accompanying documentation. * Individual must be capable of using various systems within the organization (Service Defect System, Engineering Drawings, BOMs, Mapics Descriptions, etc.). * Performs daily 5S activities to keep area clean, organized and safe. * Individual must be capable of effectively communicating to various areas of the organization (e.g. supplier quality, supply chain, product technical support, engineering, plant quality, field service, etc.). * Must be capable of using various test equipment (e.g. gauges, simulators, test boxes, multimeters, curve tracer, oscilloscope, etc.). * Individual must be proficient at using the 8D corrective action process. * Individual must be proficient at reviewing supplier 8D corrective actions.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:

Qualifications
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
· BSEE/ME (or EET/MET), or related Physical Science
· A minimum of 4 years experience in failure analysis to the component level (direct work experience in the testing of electrical and mechanical components used in HVAC/R equipment would be a plus).
· A strong background in component analysis, with use of a variety of test instruments (including but not limited to multimeters, scopes, pressure and vacuum gauges, etc.).
· Certain related experience may be considered a plus. Specific areas as applied to HVAC/R equipment:
· Ability to troubleshoot electronic components at the board level.
· Knowledge of and ability to troubleshoot HVAC/R equipment and systems that they are applied in (e.g. pumping systems, cooling towers, etc.)
